There are so many reasons we are doing Rally and Julia is one of them.
Julia was 23 years old when she lost her battle with cancer as a result of having Neurofibromatosis (NF). NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumours to grow on nerves. Most people can successfully live with this disorder but for some, it can cause very severe and life-threatening complications. It is unpredictable, and currently, there is no cure.
Julia was an aspiring Early Childhood Educator at Wonderschool Conder, located in Canberra’s far south, and was also studying full-time to become a qualified Early Childhood Teacher. She didn’t let NF stop her from doing things she loved which included skydiving three times and bungee jumping.
Julia also loved sunflowers and considered herself a fighter which is what she had to do when her cancer came back in 2022. She fought to spend more time with her family and loved ones who miss her dearly.
A Poem for Julia...
There is no night without a dawning
No winter without a spring
And beyond the dark horizon
Our hearts will once more sing…
For those who leave us for a while
Have only gone away
Out of a restless, care worn world
Into a brighter day. - Helen Steiner Rice
